THE KANSAS CITY Royals are headed to baseball’s World Series after benefiting from a controversial call in game six of the American League Championship Series (ACLS).
Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas’ connection on a David Price pitch appeared as if it was going to hit the wall in the bottom of the second inning.
Indeed, though it was ruled as such, the umpires decided to review the play to see if Humphries had interfered with the trajectory of the ball and the game commentators seemed convinced they would rule he did and that Moustakas would be returned to second base with a ground-rule double.
Instead, the umpires could not find enough evidence to overturn the original call and the Royals took a 3-0 lead.
Though the Blue Jays fought back, Kansas City went on to win the game 4-3 — and the series 4-2 — after Lorenzo Cain scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, scoring all the way from first on Eric Hosmer’s single.

However, a Kansas City fan — identified later as Caleb Humphries — appeared to reach over the wall and pull the hit in for a home run.
Indeed, though it was ruled as such, the umpires decided to review the play to see if Humphries had interfered with the trajectory of the ball and the game commentators seemed convinced they would rule he did and that Moustakas would be returned to second base with a ground-rule double.
Instead, the umpires could not find enough evidence to overturn the original call and the Royals took a 3-0 lead.
